Zionsville holds off Lawrence Central for 24-12 victory
Eagles build halftime lead, improve to 2-0
ZIONSVILLE, Ind. — Zionsville built a two-touchdown halftime lead and defeated Lawrence Central 24-12 in an Indiana high school football nonconference game Friday night.
Neither team scored in the opening quarter before the Eagles (2-0) found the end zone twice in the second. Lawrence Central (1-1) scored six points in the quarter, sending Zionsville into halftime with a 14-6 advantage.
The Bears pulled closer with another touchdown in the third quarter, but Zionsville answered with a field goal to carry a 17-12 lead into the fourth. The Eagles scored the only seven points of the final period to secure the victory.
Zade Bankert led Zionsville’s rushing attack with 94 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Quarterback Finn Giles completed 7 of 13 passes for 95 yards and a touchdown. Nic Hoggs led the Eagles’ receivers with five catches for 48 yards and a touchdown. Theo Schott added a 6-yard TD run in the win.
