Wes-Del overwhelms Tri-Central in 74-0 season-opening victory

Warriors rush for seven touchdowns while adding two defensive scores and two safeties

GASTON, Ind. — Wes-Del scored nine touchdowns, recorded two safeties and kept Tri-Central off the scoreboard in a 74-0 season-opening Indiana high school football victory.

The Warriors did their offensive damage entirely on the ground, rushing 24 times for 287 yards and seven touchdowns. Wes-Del averaged 12 yards per carry despite using 10 different ball carriers.

Zach Gillam led the attack, rushing four times for 92 yards and two touchdowns. The junior averaged 23 yards per attempt and broke a 28-yard run. He also returned an interception 51 yards for a touchdown, giving him three scores and 143 all-purpose yards.  Rhyker Mauck gained 49 yards and scored twice on five attempts. Eli Wright added a touchdown while Gavin Perdue and Jaxon Drumm also contributed rushing scores.

Wes-Del’s defense added two touchdowns and helped keep Tri-Central scoreless throughout the game. Gillam scored on his interception return, while Easton Stewart returned a fumble recovery for another touchdown. Connor Johnson and Stewart were each credited with a safety.

The Warriors also converted eight two-point attempts.
