Ishola powers Speedway past Heritage Christian
Staff Report
SPEEDWAY — Heritage Christian’s bid for its first victory ended six points short Friday night as Speedway earned a 28-22 playoff win behind a productive performance from Mazeed Ishola.
The Sparkplugs improved to 4-6 and advanced to face Tri-West, while the Eagles finished their season 0-10.
Ishola supplied Speedway with a threat on the ground and through the air. He rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns on just eight carries, averaging 17.6 yards per attempt, and caught four passes for 81 yards. His combined 222 rushing and receiving yards highlighted the Sparkplugs’ offensive effort.
Speedway quarterback Conner Battle completed 11 of 18 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown, with one interception.
The six-point result represented a considerably tighter contest than the teams’ season opener, which Speedway won 47-19. Heritage Christian increased its scoring output in the rematch and reduced a 28-point margin to six, but the Sparkplugs again emerged with the victory.
Speedway will travel to Tri-West for round two of sectional play. The Bruins enter that matchup at 8-2 following a 42-21 playoff victory over Crawfordsville.
