Plainfield used a dominant second half and balanced scoring to pull away for a 55–51 victory over Ben Davis in round one of the Plainfield girls basketball sectional.

After a tight opening half, Plainfield (20 – 5) found its rhythm offensively in the third quarter and made enough plays down the stretch to hold off a late Lady Giants push.  The Lady Quakers (11 – 12) trailed by just one possession at halftime before erupting for a 13-point third quarter, turning defensive stops into transition chances. Plainfield followed that with a solid 14-point fourth quarter.  Plainfield’s depth showed, with scoring coming from all four quarters and timely baskets whenever Ben Davis threatened to close the gap.  The Giants put together their best stretch in the second quarter and continued to fight in the fourth, but Plainfield’s execution at both ends in the final minutes proved decisive.  Plainfield spread the scoring across the roster and made the most of its opportunities in the paint, while Ben Davis relied heavily on its top two scorers. The Quakers’ third-quarter surge ultimately created just enough separation to survive a competitive finish.

Hannah Menser led the way with 18 points, including multiple field goals during the decisive second-half run.  Berkeley Williams added 16 points, scoring inside and knocking down mid-range shots to keep the offense steady.  Shania Curry poured in a game-high 22 points, carrying much of the Giants’ offensive load, along with eight rebounds.  Aleia Sultzer added 13 points and six boards, including key baskets in the third quarter to keep Ben Davis close.
