Pendleton Heights Pulls Away From Mt. Vernon Behind Balanced Scoring Effort

PENDLETON — Pendleton Heights used a balanced offensive attack and steady shooting to secure a 60–39 round one sectional victory over Mt. Vernon in girls high school basketball action.

The Lady Arabians shot an efficient 50 percent from the field (20-of-40) and knocked down key perimeter shots to keep the Marauders from gaining momentum. Pendleton Heights also controlled the glass, finishing with 37 rebounds and consistently creating second-chance opportunities.  Mt. Vernon struggled to find consistent rhythm against Pendleton Heights’ defensive pressure, and the Arabians steadily built their lead through the second half to seal the win.

Aubree Warfel led the way with 16 points for Heights on 5-of-8 shooting, including a four three-pointers. She also contributed on the boards and provided strong defensive pressure throughout the game.  Sami Brunk poured in 12 points, connecting on 4-of-6 shots including three from beyond the arc. Brunk’s outside shooting helped stretch Mt. Vernon’s defense and opened driving lanes for her teammates.  Adah Hupfer recorded a double-double chipping in 11 points and was active around the rim grabbing 12 boards.

Pendleton Heights also moved the ball well, finishing with 19 assists, a sign of the unselfish play that defined the night. Defensively, the Arabians forced tough looks and limited Mt. Vernon’s efficiency inside.
