Scecina’s fourth-quarter rally falls short against Northfield

Brown scores three ways as Crusaders drop 40-32 decision

INDIANAPOLIS — Scecina scored 16 fourth-quarter points but couldn’t overcome an early deficit, falling to visiting Northfield 40-32 in an Indiana high school football matchup.

Tristan Brown scored touchdowns on a reception, a fumble return and a kickoff return for the Crusaders, who fell to 0-6. Northfield improved to 4-2.

Scecina trailed 12-3 after the opening quarter and 26-10 at halftime. Both teams scored six points in the third before the Crusaders outscored Northfield 16-8 in the fourth to narrow the final margin to eight.

Brown caught five passes for 68 yards, returned a fumble 74 yards for a touchdown and added an 87-yard kickoff return for another score. The senior also recorded eight tackles and a forced fumble.

Bryce McDonald completed 14 of 24 passes for 153 yards. Gavin Connel caught five passes for 50 yards and rushed for 18 yards and a touchdown on seven carries. Micah Miller added two receptions for 19 yards.

The Crusaders finished with 190 yards of offense, including 153 through the air. Their return game contributed 205 yards on six kickoffs, with Brown accounting for 99 yards and Connel adding 85.

Connel led Scecina’s defense with 12 tackles, while Henry McKiernan added 11. Austin Anglemyer recorded 10 tackles, including one for loss, and intercepted a pass. Miller recovered a fumble to give the Crusaders three takeaways.

Axel Calzada-Cano connected on a 33-yard field goal in the loss.
