Hamilton Heights holds off Central Catholic for 28-26 victory

Whitaker accounts for three touchdowns as Huskies withstand second-half rally

Hamilton Heights built a 21-point halftime lead and held off a second-half comeback to beat Lafayette Central Catholic 28-26.

Lucas Whitaker threw two touchdown passes and rushed for another score as the Huskies improved to 3-3. Central Catholic fell to 2-4.

Hamilton Heights led 7-0 after the opening quarter and added 14 unanswered points in the second to take a 21-0 advantage into halftime. The Huskies carried a 28-14 lead into the fourth quarter before Central Catholic scored 12 unanswered points to narrow the final margin to two.

Whitaker completed 25 of 38 passes for 246 yards. Jackson Mikesell was his leading target, catching nine passes for 130 yards and a touchdown, including a 46-yard reception.

AJ Flanagan led the ground attack with 112 yards on 26 carries and added eight receptions for 38 yards, finishing with 150 yards from scrimmage.

Kase Powell scored on his lone rushing attempt, a 34-yard run, and caught two passes for 35 yards. Brennan Heckman contributed a 6-yard touchdown reception, while Will DeStefano added four catches for 30 yards.

Hamilton Heights finished with 405 yards of offense, gaining 246 through the air and 159 on the ground.
