Covenant Christian rallies past Shortridge for 34-13 victory

Warriors score 34 points over final three quarters, improve to 2-0

INDIANAPOLIS — Covenant Christian overcame an early deficit and scored 34 points over the final three quarters to defeat Indianapolis Shortridge 34-13 in an Indiana high school football nonconference game Friday night.

Shortridge (1-1) scored the game’s first seven points, but Covenant Christian responded with 14 in the second quarter to take a 14-7 halftime lead.

The Warriors (2-0) extended their advantage by outscoring the Blue Devils 13-0 in the third quarter. Both teams scored in the fourth, with Covenant Christian adding seven points and Shortridge six.

Josiah Hawk led the Warriors’ ground attack with 100 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. Quarterback Weston Laughlin completed 2 of 5 passes for 31 yards and a touchdown without an interception. Levi Holzknecht caught one pass for 28 yards and a touchdown.
