Cornpropst supplies 10 kicking points as Trojans survive Greyhounds’ offensive surge

On a steamy Friday night, Center Grove overcame a 474-yard performance by Carmel to defeat the Greyhounds 36-34 to win the Copper Kettle in an Indiana high school football MIC conference game.

The narrow road victory improved the Trojans to 2-1 and dropped Carmel to 1-2.

Center Grove leaned on its rushing attack, gaining 205 yards and scoring three touchdowns on 47 carries. Hudson Winkler led the Trojans with 101 yards and a touchdown on 13 attempts. Ricky Lange added 48 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Jayden Biggerstaff contributed 34 yards and a score. Quarterback Oscar Sloan completed 10 of 16 passes for 94 yards and a touchdown. Roman Youngs caught the scoring pass, and Elijah Williams led the receiving corps with 52 yards on two catches. Williams’ longest reception covered 43 yards. Dallas Cornpropst provided a major lift on special teams. The senior converted both field-goal tries, including one from 51 yards.

Carmel quarterback Jackson Treadway completed 21 of 29 passes for 288 yards and three touchdowns. He also scored on the ground and ran for a two-point conversion. Mychael Lewis led the Greyhounds with 143 rushing yards and a touchdown on 25 carries. He also caught six passes for 95 yards and another score, finishing with 238 yards from scrimmage. Chris Harris caught five passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns, while Carson Clark recorded eight receptions for 78 yards.

Despite Carmel’s 474 total yards, Center Grove’s balanced rushing attack and kicking game helped the Trojans secure the two-point victory.
