Brownsburg Buries Zionsville With 42-Point First Half, Rolls 48-10
ZIONSVILLE, Ind. — Brownsburg spent nine weeks building an unbeaten regular season, and it took the Bulldogs only one half Friday night to show they had no intention of letting the postseason bring it to an end. Brownsburg scored twice in the opening quarter and then unleashed a 28-point second-quarter avalanche, racing to a 42-3 halftime lead on the way to a 48-10 victory over Zionsville in the IHSAA Class 6A state tournament.
Facing a 7-2 Zionsville team on the road, the two-time defending state champion Bulldogs never allowed the Eagles to make the game uncomfortable. Brownsburg struck for 14 unanswered points in the first quarter, immediately forcing Zionsville to play from behind, then buried the Eagles with four touchdowns in a devastating second quarter that turned a 14-0 advantage into a 42-3 halftime rout.
Running back Parker Condon helped fuel the attack, rushing nine times for 75 yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback Oscar Frye supplied balance through the air with 184 passing yards and a touchdown to Crew Brown plus a score on the ground. Brady Lewis powered his way to a pair of rushing TD’s for the Dogs. That combination presented the same problem Brownsburg has created for opponents throughout its unbeaten season: concentrate too heavily on stopping the run and Frye can attack through the air; protect against the pass and the Bulldogs can punish a defense on the ground.
Zionsville couldn’t find an answer for either. The Eagles finally got on the scoreboard with a second-quarter field goal, but it did little to interrupt Brownsburg’s momentum. By halftime, the Bulldogs had scored six touchdowns and owned a staggering 42-3 advantage.
Brownsburg’s defense was just as impressive. Zionsville quarterback Finn Giles completed only 8 of 23 passes for 85 yards and was intercepted once, while the Eagles also struggled to establish their running game. That created a punishing cycle for Zionsville: Brownsburg would score, the Eagles would get the football needing an answer, and the Bulldogs’ defense would quickly put Frye and the offense back in position to strike again. By the second quarter, the pressure had become relentless.
Brownsburg added six more points in the third quarter to stretch the margin to 48-3 before Zionsville finally reached the end zone in the fourth. Zade Bankert, who rushed for 23 yards on 10 carries, scored the Eagles’ lone touchdown.
The victory was Brownsburg’s second dominant performance against Zionsville this season. The Bulldogs won the regular-season meeting 38-3 on Oct. 2 and were even more decisive in the playoff rematch, outscoring the Eagles 86-13 across the two games. That dominance is particularly noteworthy considering Zionsville finished 7-3 and entered Friday having won three straight games, including a 45-7 victory over Fishers.
Brownsburg improved to 10-0 and kept alive its pursuit of a third consecutive Class 6A state championship. Next comes a trip to Ben Davis, which advanced with a 32-10 victory over Avon.
For Zionsville, the season ended at 7-3. For Brownsburg, the unbeaten season rolls on. The Bulldogs arrived in Zionsville as Indiana’s top-ranked team and the two-time defending Class 6A champion, and by halftime Friday night they had provided a 42-point reminder of why.
