Brebeuf rallies from 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to edge Columbus North

Bouwkamp throws four touchdown passes, Cosgrove catches three in 32-29 victory

COLUMBUS — Brebeuf Jesuit erased a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit and survived a late Columbus North scoring threat to defeat the host Bull Dogs 32-29 in an Indiana high school football matchup.

Keegan Bouwkamp threw for 337 yards and four touchdowns, while Carter Cosgrove caught eight passes for 166 yards and three scores as the Braves improved to 4-3. Columbus North fell to 3-4.

The Bull Dogs struck first on defense, returning an interception for a touchdown to take a 7-0 first-quarter lead.

Brebeuf answered with a touchdown pass in the second quarter, tying the game at 7-7. But after stopping the Braves on fourth down, Columbus North regained the advantage with a touchdown pass and carried a 14-7 lead into halftime.

The momentum shifted in the third quarter. Brebeuf recovered a fumble at the Columbus North 40-yard line and followed with a touchdown pass. A missed extra point left the Braves trailing 14-13.

Later in the quarter, another scoring pass put Brebeuf ahead for the first time. The two-point attempt failed, but the Braves entered the fourth with a 19-14 advantage after holding Columbus North scoreless throughout the third.

The Bull Dogs responded with 15 consecutive points. A touchdown pass restored their lead at 20-19, and although the two-point attempt failed, a safety increased the margin to three. Columbus North then added a rushing touchdown and extra point to move ahead 29-19.

Brebeuf fought back. Jasir King scored the Braves’ rushing touchdown, and Miles Wilmore’s extra point cut the deficit to 29-26.

An interception gave Columbus North another opportunity to take control. With approximately a minute remaining, the Bull Dogs faced third down near Brebeuf’s 5-yard line. The Braves’ defense held, eventually taking possession on downs.

Brebeuf finished the comeback with its fourth touchdown pass of the game, producing the final 32-29 margin.

Bouwkamp completed 20 of 40 passes. Nate Johnson joined Cosgrove in the scoring column, catching three passes for 41 yards and a touchdown. Brian Vaughn added two receptions for 48 yards, while Zeb Cox caught three passes for 43 yards.

King rushed for 34 yards on 12 carries as Brebeuf finished with 390 yards of offense.

Matthew Johnson led the Braves’ defense with 18 tackles and a forced fumble. Joshua Rogers added 13 tackles, including 2½ for loss, and Ryan Cummings recorded 10. Gabe Cox recovered a fumble, while Cam Walters and Charlie Austin each registered a sack.
