In a heart-stopping Indiana high school basketball neutral site clash, Greenfield-Central edged Batesville 52-51 in a holiday tournament game that came down to the final possession. The Cougars’ gritty effort snapped a tight game in the closing moments and handed Batesville its first loss of the season. 

Greenfield-Central (5-4) jumped out to an early lead, taking a 13-10 advantage after the first quarter. Batesville fought back to stay close, but the Cougars stretched their lead with a 20-16 third quarter and held off a late Bulldog rally in the fourth to secure the one-point victory. 

Batesville (7-1) received a balanced offensive effort, with senior James Hughes leading the Bulldogs with 17 points and five rebounds and Trenten Luers chipping in 11 points and five boards. Despite their strong season and higher ranking coming into the matchup, Batesville was unable to finish the comeback in the final minute. 

For Greenfield-Central, it was a true team win. Isaiah Humes paced the Cougars with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Cole Mullins added 14 points and five rebounds to spark the balanced attack. The win marked a key moment in Greenfield-Central’s season, underscoring the team’s resilience against a highly ranked opponent.
