Roman Wessell finished with 148 yards passing including a 56-yard touchdown pass to Darian Girton. The Eagles received the opening kickoff, but the Tigers defense quickly stepped up to force a punt highlighted by a tackle for loss by Cullen Wolf. Fishers would give the ball right back on a fumble on their first offensive play – giving the Eagles the ball in the red zone. Spencer Choi capitalized to give Zionsville an early lead.
Fishers drove all the way down the field including a 4th down conversion from Wessell to Max Hopkins. The Tigers would eventually turn the ball over on downs as the official ruled Darian Girton to be out of bounds in the end zone on a 4th down pass. Zionsville wasted no time extending their lead as Finn Giles found Theo Schott for a short completion and Schott did the rest for a 72-yard touchdown.
The Tigers would again give the Eagles great field position on a fumble deep in their own territory. Schott found the end zone again to push the lead to 21-0. Fishers would answer back as Wessell stood in the pocket and got hit, but found Girton over the middle for a 56-yard touchdown to give the Tigers their first points of the night. Zionsville would answer to make the score 28-7 at the end of a high-scoring 1st quarter.
The teams exchanged punts to start the 2nd quarter before Zionsville finally converted a 30-yard field goal by Sam Black. After another Tigers punt, the Eagles appeared to have something going, but Parker Condon punched the ball out and Tyler Kuebbeler recovered the fumble. The Tigers couldn’t capitalize as Wessell’s pass got caught in the wind and sailed over the intended receiver’s head and intercepted . The Eagles took a 31-7 lead into halftime.
The Tigers had the ball to start the 3rd quarter, but the offense struggled to gain yards throughout the quarter resulting in 3 punts. The Eagles also struggled to consistently gain yards, but did have a scoring drive. A slant pass on 3rd down kept the drive alive before a QB scramble ended up in the end zone. With just 2 minutes gone in the 4th quarter, the Eagles again found the end zone to push the score to 45-7 and institute a running clock.
