INDIANAPOLIS — For two quarters Friday night, Heritage Christian kept unbeaten Indianapolis Lutheran within reach. By the final whistle, the Saints had turned that narrow advantage into a convincing victory.
Lutheran scored 28 unanswered points after halftime, including 21 in the fourth quarter triggering a running clock, to defeat the host Eagles 35–0 in conference football action Oct. 9.
The Saints improved to 7–0, while Heritage Christian fell to 0–8.
Lutheran established a 7–0 lead in the opening quarter, but the game remained tight through the remainder of the first half. Neither team scored in the second period, leaving Heritage Christian one touchdown behind at the break.
The Eagles’ defense had kept the deficit manageable. Their offense, however, could not produce the points needed to draw even.
Lutheran created breathing room in the third quarter, adding seven points while continuing to keep Heritage Christian off the scoreboard. The Saints entered the fourth ahead 14–0, with the Eagles still within two possessions.
The separation came in the final period. Lutheran put up 21 points, turning a competitive halftime score into a five-touchdown margin. Its defense completed the shutout, denying Heritage Christian a scoring response in every quarter.
Sophomore quarterback Coltin Bonds provided production through the air and on the ground. He completed five of 10 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown without an interception, while rushing seven times for 95 yards and another score. His rushing total included an 87-yard gain.
Kelan Ford contributed touchdowns as both a runner and receiver. He caught three passes for 77 yards and a score and turned his only rushing attempt into a 28-yard touchdown. Parker Rodriguez added an 11-yard touchdown run, while Braylon Ridner carried 18 times for 62 yards.
Lutheran finished with 311 yards of offense, including 196 rushing.
Christian Hall led the Saints’ defense with 19 tackles. Logan Kennerk added nine tackles, including four for loss and a sack, helping Lutheran limit Heritage Christian to 168 total yards.
Justus Klingerman paced the Eagles with 79 rushing yards on 11 carries and also recorded nine tackles. Bradley Dunn added 60 yards on 19 attempts.
Heritage Christian’s ability to keep the first half close gave it an opportunity. Lutheran’s second-half scoring surge, backed by a defense that never yielded a point, ultimately decided the game.
