Alexander’s 209-yard effort lifts Sheridan past Clinton Prairie

Blackhawks recover three fumbles in 12-7 conference victory

FRANKFORT — Hayden Alexander rushed for 209 yards and a touchdown as Sheridan edged host Clinton Prairie 12-7 in an Indiana high school football matchup.

The Blackhawks improved to 3-2 with the Hoosier Heartland Conference victory. Clinton Prairie fell to 3-2.

Alexander carried 33 times, averaging 6.3 yards per attempt and accounting for all but 13 of Sheridan’s 222 rushing yards. The senior also completed a 43-yard pass to Desh Donathen and returned three punts for 45 yards.

Brock Hagan completed 10 of 14 passes for 94 yards and a touchdown. Landon Moffitt caught four passes for 48 yards and Sheridan’s lone receiving score, while Brody Heck added six receptions for 46 yards.

The Blackhawks finished with 359 yards of total offense, including 137 through the air.

Sheridan’s defense recovered three fumbles and limited Clinton Prairie to seven points. Waylyn Grinstead led the Blackhawks with nine tackles, including seven solo stops and one tackle for loss. He also forced and recovered a fumble. Levi Gellert and Braxton Schwerdtfeger added eight tackles apiece, while Heck and Dylan Lopez each recorded seven. Gellert and Cesar Cuautle accounted for Sheridan’s other fumble recoveries.
