Wes-Del pulls away from Heritage Christian, stays unbeaten with 50-6 win

Warriors score 44 unanswered points as Mauck leads 373-yard rushing attack

INDIANAPOLIS — Wes-Del broke open a first-quarter tie with 44 unanswered points Friday, rolling past host Heritage Christian 50-6 in a nonconference Indiana high school football matchup.

Rhyker Mauck rushed for 169 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries as the Warriors improved to 5-0. Heritage Christian fell to 0-5.  Wes-Del finished with 436 yards of total offense, including 373 on the ground. Five Warriors scored rushing touchdowns as the team averaged 12 yards per carry.

The teams were tied 6-6 after the opening quarter before Wes-Del scored 14 points in the second to take a 20-6 halftime lead. A 22-point third quarter stretched the Warriors’ advantage to 42-6 triggering a running colck, and they added eight points in the fourth.

Zach Gillam gained 94 yards on just two attempts, including a 77-yard run, and scored once. Eli Wright added 38 yards and a touchdown on three carries, while Haiden Hassett rushed for 32 yards and a score on four attempts. Noah Perdue contributed a 2-yard rushing touchdown. Ryan Hyre delivered touchdowns on both sides of the ball. He caught a 63-yard scoring pass from Perdue and returned an interception 50 yards for another score.

Heritage Christian finished with 166 yards of offense, including 165 rushing. Greyson Gregory led the Eagles with 50 yards on four carries, while Bradley Dunn added 45 yards on 14 attempts. Samuel Sponseller rushed for 33 yards and the Eagles’ lone touchdown on 11 carries.

Wright and freshman Luke Fields led Wes-Del’s defense with nine tackles apiece. Wright recorded 4½ tackles for loss and recovered a fumble as the Warriors totaled 12 tackles behind the line of scrimmage.
