Mississinewa pulls away late to defeat Alexandria-Monroe 50-21

GAS CITY — Mississinewa scored 24 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to pull away from Alexandria-Monroe for a 50-21 victory Friday.

The Indians improved to 3-1, overcoming a one-point halftime deficit and shutting out the Tigers over the final two quarters. Alexandria-Monroe fell to 2-2.

The teams finished the opening quarter tied at 14 before Alexandria-Monroe edged ahead 21-20 at halftime. Mississinewa scored six points in the third quarter to take a 26-21 lead, then broke the game open in the fourth.

Bryson Eckler led Alexandria-Monroe’s passing attack with nine receptions for 112 yards and a touchdown. The senior accounted for more than two-thirds of the Tigers’ receiving yardage.

Sophomore quarterback Andru Segner completed 15 of 22 passes for 163 yards and a touchdown and two interceptions. Wyatt Fuller paced the running game with 76 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries.

Alexandria-Monroe finished with 270 yards of offense, including 107 rushing yards on 38 attempts. The Tigers also lost two fumbles, bringing their turnover total to four.
