Turner powers Covenant Christian past Heritage Christian, 48-14

INDIANAPOLIS — TJ Turner rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns as Covenant Christian pulled away in the second half for a 48-14 Indiana high school football victory at Heritage Christian.

The Warriors led 19-14 at halftime before outscoring the Eagles 29-0 over the final two quarters. Covenant Christian improved to 3-1, while Heritage Christian fell to 0-4.

Turner needed just nine carries to lead a rushing attack that generated 256 yards, averaging 16.6 yards per attempt with a long run of 85 yards. Josiah Hawk added 68 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, and Reece Tincher contributed 20 yards and a score.  Weston Laughlin completed four of 13 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown, connecting with Liam Yarde for a 62-yard scoring play. Hawk added two receptions for 38 yards as the Warriors finished with 364 yards of total offense.

Covenant’s defense helped shut the door after halftime. Jayce Sibert recorded eight tackles and an interception, while Caden Frothingham also intercepted a pass. Levi Holzknecht and Samuel Pumphrey each registered a sack.

Heritage Christian totaled 303 yards, including 230 rushing. Samuel Sponseller led the Eagles with 87 yards on 13 carries, while Greyson Gregory rushed for 68 yards and both Heritage touchdowns.  Gregory completed seven of 16 passes for 73 yards. Justus Klingerman caught four balls for 64 yards and led the Eagles’ defense with 12 tackles, including two for loss. Sponseller added nine tackles.
