Mallory scores twice as Stars pile up 283 rushing yards

Jack Mallory scored two touchdowns and rushed for 114 yards as Western Boone defeated Crawfordsville 57-24 Friday night in an Indiana high school football game.

The road victory improved the Stars to 1-2 and handed the Athenians their first loss, dropping them to 2-1.

Western Boone controlled the game on the ground, rushing 38 times for 283 yards and five touchdowns. The Stars averaged 7.4 yards per carry and finished with 347 yards of total offense.

Mallory led the attack with 114 yards on nine carries, averaging 12.7 yards per attempt. His longest run covered 40 yards. The junior also caught a touchdown pass and finished with a team-high 157 all-purpose yards. Quarterback Quinn Westerfeld completed four of six passes for 23 yards and two touchdowns. He also scored on the ground. Josiah Williamson caught a 5-yard touchdown pass, while Mallory turned his lone reception into another score. Nathan Thompson supplied Western Boone’s longest completion with a 39-yard reception from Carson Nicley.

The Stars used several runners in the decisive victory. Rolen Shue gained 40 yards and scored a touchdown, while Tyson Riner and Luke Shirley also reached the end zone. Layne Bull broke free for a team-long 54-yard run on his only carry.
