Brebeuf rolls past Mt. Vernon for 47-14 victory

FORTVILLE — Keegan Bouwkamp threw three touchdown passes to Nate Johnson, and Brebeuf Jesuit piled up 475 yards of offense in a 47-14 victory over Mt. Vernon on an Indiana high school football Friday night.
The Braves controlled the game on the ground and through the air, recording 28 first downs while building a 28-7 halftime lead. Brebeuf (1-1) finished with 250 passing yards and 225 rushing yards.
Bouwkamp opened the scoring with a 4-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. He then connected with Johnson for three touchdowns in the second, finding him from 27, 6 and 13 yards. The second of those scoring passes gave Brebeuf a 21-0 advantage. Mt. Vernon (1-1) answered when Mason Meyer connected with Karsen Patterson for a 19-yard touchdown, but Bouwkamp and Johnson responded before halftime to restore the Braves’ three-touchdown lead.
Bouwkamp completed 16 of 22 passes for 250 yards and three touchdowns. Johnson caught all six passes thrown his way, finishing with 95 yards and three scores.
Brebeuf continued to pull away in the third quarter when Jasir King scored on a 7-yard run. The extra-point attempt failed, leaving the Braves ahead 34-7.
Zeb Cox added a 1-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter, and Jayden Warren followed with an 8-yard scoring run to increase the margin to 47-7. Mt. Vernon completed the scoring when Hizzy Bebley rushed for an 8-yard touchdown. King led Brebeuf’s ground attack with 137 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. Warren added 93 yards and a score on 12 carries.
Carter Cosgrove collected four receptions for 52 yards, while Cox caught two passes for 50 yards.
Brebeuf’s defense limited Mt. Vernon to 265 total yards, including 85 on the ground. The Braves also intercepted three passes and recorded nine tackles for loss totaling 24 yards.
Meyer completed 7 of 17 passes for 98 yards, one touchdown and one interception for Mt. Vernon. Luke Dierks went 4-for-7 for 43 yards but was intercepted twice. Krue Hampton led the Marauders’ receivers with three catches for 62 yards.
