Center Grove remains unbeaten drilling Southport

By Staff Report

Center Grove opened the game with a 19 – 3 first quarter run and never looked back as the Lady Trojans rolled past Southport advancing to their sectional final with a dominating 66 – 24 victory.

The Trojans (24 – 0) were never challenged in this Indiana high school girls basketball semi-final rocketing to a 35 – 9 halftime lead. CG continued to apply pressure after the break, outscoring Southport 13–8 in the third quarter to stretch the margin to 48–17 heading into the final period.  Center Grove sealed the win with an 18–7 advantage in the fourth quarter, showcasing balanced scoring and steady execution at both ends of the floor.  The Trojans were red-hot from the field al night shooting at a blistering 57% clip.

Southport (4 – 18) struggled to find a consistent offensive rhythm against Center Grove’s defense but continued to battle throughout the night. The Cardinals were led by multiple contributors in the scoring column, though they were unable to close the gap once Center Grove built its double-digit lead.  Center Grove’s depth proved to be the difference, as several players contributed scoring across all four quarters while the Trojans limited Southport’s opportunities in transition.

Gracyn Gilliard led all scorers with a game-high 24 points.  Lillia Tapak added 11 points including three 3-pointers.  Macy Cloe led the Cards with 12 points drilling four shots from beyond the arc.
