Hawks Advance Past Flashes in Sectional Semi-Final at Mooresville
MOORESVILLE, Ind. — Devin Colbert, Jr. hit the biggest shot of his Decatur Central career nailing a short jumper in the lane at the buzzer lifting the Hawks into the Mooresville sectional final with a 54 – 52 win over Franklin Central. The Hawks leaned on balanced scoring and strong defense punching their ticket to the sectional championship.
DC controlled the tempo most of the night, building an early lead and holding off several Franklin Central runs behind efficient shooting and steady rebounding. Decatur Central finished the night 19-of-45 shooting (42%) from the field and knocked down 9 of 12 free throws (75%) to maintain separation down the stretch. The Hawks also controlled the glass, pulling down 24 rebounds, including 6 offensive boards, while adding 8 assists and forcing Franklin Central into difficult possessions throughout the game.
Franklin Central struggled to find a consistent rhythm offensively as Decatur Central’s defense limited clean looks and forced contested shots for much of the contest.
Elyas Zapata led Decatur Central with 14 points along with five rebounds. Makeil Baker chipped in 11 points along including three shots from behind the arc.
