Heritage Christian pulls away late to top Triton Central, 59–52
Heritage Christian used a strong second half surge to pull away from Triton Central and secure a 59–52 victory to win their girls sectional. The Lady Eagles (18 – 8) built a slim advantage early, leading 28–23 at halftime after a tightly contested first half. Triton Central (20 – 5) struggled offensively in the second and third quarters as Heritage outscored the Lady Tigers 31 – 20 during that stretch.
TC nailed eight (8) shots from beyond the arc paced by Maryrose Felling and Layla Compton each with three. But, it was the free throw line that made the difference. The Eagles nailed 14 of 16 at the stripe compared to just 9 of 14 for the Tigers. Despite the loss, Triton Central showed resilience throughout, repeatedly answering Heritage Christian runs and keeping the game competitive into the fourth quarter.
Heritage Christian had three players score in double figures led by Riley Johnson, who finished with a game-high 22 points, consistently attacking the lane and converting key buckets in transition along with 6 of 7 from the line. Trinity Taylor added 14 points, while Elyse Snively chipped in 11 including 6 of 6 from the foul line.
Triton Central was paced by Maryrose Felling, who scored 17 points, and Layla Compton, who added 16.
